Keratoconus and irregular corneas need more than a standard contact lens fitting. Our practice is equipped with the corneal mapping technology and specialty lens expertise to manage even advanced cases.

Jessica is our clinic's sole practitioner for keratoconus, irregular cornea and scleral lens care — fitting RGP, hybrid and scleral lenses using advanced corneal mapping technology, from routine cases through to advanced keratoconus.
Behind every appointment is our experienced clinical support team, skilled in carrying out the detailed corneal scans — Medmont topography and Pentacam tomography — that inform your assessment, so Dr Atme has a complete picture of your corneal shape before your consultation.
Keratoconus is a progressive condition where the cornea gradually thins and bulges into an irregular cone shape, distorting vision. It affects around 1 in 2,000 people, usually starting in the teens to late 20s, and can also result from other irregular corneal conditions. Early detection through corneal mapping is key — the earlier it's caught, the more treatment options are available.

A conversation about your results and the lens options best suited to your case — RGP, hybrid or scleral lenses.
Trial lenses are placed on your eyes and assessed with imaging and OCT scans to determine your exact lens parameters.
Your fully customised lenses are designed and manufactured to your exact measurements — usually taking around 2 weeks.
At your delivery appointment we check the fit of your new lenses and guide you through insertion, removal, handling and lens care. Regular reviews follow in the first few months, and ongoing reviews continue for as long as you wear your lenses — to monitor your eye health, keep your fit accurate, and track your keratoconus for any progression.
Rigid lenses give much better vision than glasses for keratoconus and irregular corneas — masking the irregular shape and providing a new, smooth optical surface for light to focus correctly.
Large-diameter rigid lenses (16.5mm or above) that vault completely over the cornea and rest on the sclera, the white of the eye. A fluid reservoir between the lens and cornea smooths over irregularities, providing sharp, stable vision without touching the cornea itself — ideal for keratoconus, irregular corneas and complex cases.
Combines a rigid lens centre — giving the sharp vision of an RGP lens — with a soft outer skirt for exceptional comfort and stability. A popular alternative to RGP lenses for keratoconus and irregular corneas, including the SynergEyes UltraHealth design for more complex cases.
Smaller rigid corneal lenses (around 9–9.5mm) that rest directly on the cornea, masking its irregular shape with a smooth new optical surface. A well-established, cost-effective option for many cases of keratoconus and irregular astigmatism.
Every assessment uses advanced corneal imaging to detect and monitor irregularities with precision — the foundation for an accurate lens fit.
Maps the front surface of your cornea in high-precision 3D, tracking subtle shape changes over time and guiding the design of your custom RGP or scleral lenses.
Scans both the front and back surfaces of your cornea, plus its thickness profile, to detect and stage keratoconus with precision — often catching signs before they'd show on standard topography alone.
Private billing clinic — Medicare rebates may apply to eligible consultations depending on your condition.
Package fees vary depending on the complexity of your case. Replacement scleral lenses are priced at $650–750 each, or $1,300–1,500 per pair. A Medicare rebate may apply depending on your eye condition, and part of the cost may be claimable through private health insurance extras cover. Clinic booking policy: for late cancellations within 2 business days or non-attendance, a $50 fee applies.

Please note: if you currently wear rigid contact lenses (RGP, hybrid or scleral), please avoid wearing them for at least a few days before your appointment, so we can obtain accurate baseline corneal measurements — long-term wearers may need a longer break. If you're unsure, give us a call and we can advise based on your history.
