Here's everything you need to know before your child's visit — what we check during a kids eye test, and what to bring along.

A typical kids eye test covers all of this — don't worry, it's all quick, painless and fun!
We check how clearly your child can see, up close and far away, using fun picture and letter charts.
We measure their exact prescription to see if glasses would help them see their very best.
A quick, painless scan measuring the length of the eye — an important baseline for tracking eye growth over time.
A look inside and around the eye to make sure everything is healthy and developing normally.
We check how well their eyes move, focus and work together as a team.
A simple, fun test using colourful dot patterns to check for any colour vision differences.
What to expect: for younger children, we may use eye drops to temporarily relax the eye's focusing muscles (cycloplegia), giving a more accurate and reliable measurement of their prescription. If used, vision may be blurry and eyes more light-sensitive for a few hours afterward.
Having these on hand helps us make the most of your child's appointment.
So we can process any eligible rebates on the day.
Bring this along if you'd like to claim on any extras cover.
Helps your optometrist compare your child's existing prescription.
If you have one from your GP, maternal health nurse or another specialist, feel free to bring it along.
Bringing something familiar can help your child feel relaxed and comfortable during their test.
Our team loves working with kids and will keep things fun, friendly and relaxed from start to finish. If anything comes up before then, we're only a phone call away.
